Ibby Cares is an interfaith charity where Christians and Muslims give together, offering food, shelter, and help for those in need, rooted in the call to generosity that both our faiths have taught for thousands of years.

Our story

Named for a boy who belongs to both worlds.

Ibby Cares began with a simple belief: that Christians and Muslims, though we walk different paths of faith, share a deep and ancient calling to care for those in need.

The name comes from Ibby, a nickname for Ibrahim, a nephew born into a Muslim family within a Christian nation. His life, straddling both worlds from birth, became a living reminder that these two traditions aren't strangers to one another. They share roots, values, and a common call to generosity that runs deeper than the things that divide us.

Ibrahim is also known to Christians as Abraham, the shared father of both our faiths. In his honor, Ibby Cares brings pastors, priests, and imams together around what we hold in common: generosity, gratitude to God, and love for our neighbor.

We don't ask anyone to change what they believe. We ask everyone, giver and receiver alike, to join us at the table of shared values that both our faiths have taught for thousands of years. The Ibby Cares founding commitment

What we do

Every gift meets two kinds of hunger.

Every gift we distribute, whether food, shelter support, or financial help, comes paired with a short study session on giving and gratitude. Two sessions are always offered, and you're welcome at either:

The Christian-led session

Taught by a participating pastor or priest, drawing on Christian teaching about tithing, almsgiving, and love of neighbor, taught from within the Christian tradition, unchanged.

The Muslim-led session

Taught by a participating imam, drawing on Islamic teaching about zakat, sadaqah, and care for those in need, taught from within the Islamic tradition, unchanged.

Both sessions are rooted in the same truth: that what we've been given, we're called to share. Attend whichever you choose. Either one fulfills the invitation.
Given

Donations from Christian and Muslim communities, from congregations, families, and individuals, fund every blessing we distribute. We accept no government money, so our ministry stays fully what it is.

Broken

Like the loaf in our mark, every gift is broken and shared: groceries, rent help, warm clothing, emergency aid, distributed directly to neighbors in need in our community.

Shared

Alongside every gift, a seat at a study session on generosity and gratitude, led by a pastor or an imam, each teaching honestly from their own tradition.

What we affirm together.

This is not a merged creed. Each tradition keeps full authority over its own teaching. These are the commitments we hold in common, the table both faiths already set:

Generosity is sacred

Giving to those in need is not merely charity but a duty owed to God, expressed through tithing and almsgiving in the Christian tradition, and through zakat and sadaqah in the Islamic tradition.

The neighbor in need

We are called to care for the poor, the hungry, the stranger, the orphan, and the vulnerable, without regard to their faith or background.

Gratitude is the root

Our giving flows from gratitude for what we have received, not from obligation to be repaid, and not from a desire for recognition.

Integrity in stewardship

We are accountable to God and to one another for how gifts are received, held, and distributed. Honest, transparent stewardship, always.

Dignity of the recipient

Everyone who receives assistance through Ibby Cares is treated with dignity and respect, whichever faith they hold, or none.

Doctrinal integrity

We work together on these shared values without asking any participating tradition to alter, merge, or dilute its own core teachings.

Ibby Cares is built around an Interfaith Clergy Council: participating pastors, priests, and imams who guide the content of each tradition's study sessions. Joining doesn't mean blending anything: you teach from within your own tradition, doctrinally intact, and your role is advisory. The giving and the governance are handled by the organization.

An honest note about being new: Ibby Cares doesn't have years of audited financials yet, because we're just beginning. What we can offer is a commitment made in public, before you give: our books open to our board, our reports published on schedule, and our conduct answerable to the clergy of two faiths and to God. Hold us to it.
